Resolutions, anyone?

How many of us are resolving to practice a little more?

Whether or not your resolutions include practicing, it is time to get back to making music. And to help us along with that resolution, we've got more NEW MUSIC!!  Check out the music links to see if you can spot the new ones - and if you find better performances, please let Tracie know.

We will be back to watching for weathery Wednesdays - and hoping they won't interfere with regular rehearsals. If conditions are such that there could be an issue, please watch your inbox for cancellation emails.

For those that played in the Christmas concert - thank you for all the efforts to make it a success!

Since it's time to get back, it's also time for the second fees installment for those that chose the two-payment plan.
Also, if you still have either a Christmas folder or a November 11th folder (or both), please bring them to band as soon as possible so the music can be sorted out for next year.
Please let us know if you won't be able to attend a rehearsal as well

It's less than a month to our Christmas Concert!

Thank you!

First, thank you to everyone who playd in either or both the concert at Lakeview and the service in Fort Qu'Appelle - both performances had appreciative audiences!

Get Ready to Celebrate

So, now to start working on our selections for Christmas. We already have a new piece to work on, and there may be more as well as our holiday standards. This means coming to as many rehearsals as you can - and possibly some practice in between. And with the days getting shorter, the weather becomes more of a factor, so do watch your email for updates in case of possible "weather events". Also, don't forget to let us know if you can't make it to rehearsal for other reasons as well.

Time Passages...

posted Nov 5, 2018, 5:29 PM by Tracie Larsen   [ updated Nov 5, 2018, 5:29 PM ]

What? It's almost Remembrance Day, already?

How can the time disappear like that?

We do have a couple new pieces for November 11, so please be sure to come to the November 7th rehearsal(s) as it's the last chance to go over them before the concert at Lakeview United Church on November 10th (see attached poster), and the service in Fort Qu'appelle on November 11th.
For both concerts, please wear all black (standard concert attire), and a poppy.
On November 10th, Senior band members should be at the church by 6pm.  Note that there will be a poppy tray from the Legion at the door; if you need to take a poppy, please remember to leave a donation. We have permission from the church to have a donation box for the Legion at the concert as well.
On November 11th, please meet at the church by 8:15 am as we need to load the music stands and percussion equipment. The bus will leave at 8:30 am.
Because the Riders are hosting the semi-final, we will be returning to Regina right after the concert so the Pep Band members can get to the game.

Our fundraising dinner at Peg's Kitchen is also coming up fast - it's on November 16th! Please get your tickets as soon as possible, as there are a limited number at each seating (5;30 pm & 7:30 pm). Tickets are $25 for adults and
$10 for children - note that drinks are extra.

We will be raffling off the flute and clarinet lamps made by Brent - hopefully everyone will be able to sell a few tickets (available November 7th). The draw will be made at the Christmas concert, so there is some time to get them sold.

New season, new faces, new music!!

posted Sep 18, 2018, 11:12 PM by Tracie Larsen

Not just the usual suspects this year - we had a lot of new faces last week. And, we did a lot of sight-reading with new music, so there's lots to look forward to.

Fall Overview
Here's a quick look at the events coming up - the details are on the calendar entries!
We have the welcome back social coming up, on Wednesday September 26th - Intermediate will finish a little later and Senior will start a little later to give everyone a chance to meet some of the new faces in both groups, and to catch up with the old familiar faces too!
The social committee is tentatively planning a steak night or harvest dinner in October or November - stay tuned for details.
And of course, our Halloween fun night is coming up, on October 24th - come in costume to win prizes!  Since Halloween falls on a Wednesday, rehearsals are cancelled on October 31.

The tickets for the 50/50 draws will be sold during the last rehearsal of the month this season, with the winning number in the next week's email update.
Fees are due October 17th for those making a single payment, and October 17th and January 16th for those making two payments.

Our fundraising activities for the year include: the 50/50 draws, a proposed harvest dinner/steak night, raffles at our concerts, and a hot dog sale, (usually in the May-August period).

Now that the Labour Day Classic is over, it's time to dust off the instrument, check for reeds or valve oil and make sure the instruments still work... because the 2018/19 season will be starting on
Just like last year, we will be meeting in the Band Room at Thom Collegiate, at 6:30 pm for the intermediate group, and 8 pm for the Senior group.
And, of course, if you can let others know about our group, please do!  Forward and/or post the attached poster, courtesy of one of our talented members.

Looking forward to seeing new faces, familiar faces, new music (hopefully) and some of the old standards!
