Announcements

The 2019/2020 season originally planned to run September 11, 2019 through to May 13, 2020, has ended as of March 20. See you in September 2020 - we hope - so stay healthy!!

We were rehearsing in the music room at Thom Collegiate, on Wednesday nights.

And... it's a wrap

Yet another casualty of the COVID-19 troubles, our season has come to an early close this year.

The Optimist Festival here in Regina was hit hard by the issue with the teachers' job action, and the social distancing caused that to definitely close down. The Moose Jaw Band and Choral Festival has also been cancelled this year - but they have invited us to be the guest band next year, so there is that to look forward to.  And, it's only prudent to cancel our spring concert as well, so we won't be visiting with our friends from Tisdale this spring.

So what do we do with our folders and music? For those of us who will return in the fall, we will bring them with us in September. For those who will not be returning in September, please follow the directions in the recent email.

Of course, that means that over the months to come, one could practice some of the pieces ... or at least listen to the pieces in the Music Links section (and let us know if there's a performance out there that would be a better reference!) .

So, keep your distance, and stay safe and healthy until we meet again. Watch the email for further information - and it will make its way here too.

Time passages...

It's a leap year, but somehow time has still moved inexorably on.

This month got off to a great start with the clinic with Jan Michael Bourgeois - both groups thoroughly enjoyed their sessions. It is always interesting to see/hear another director's perspective on our pieces.  Then we had the lovely steak night fundraiser - thanks so much to the social committee for organizing it!

Back to work this week, though - we have some work to do on the pieces for the concert as well as the festival pieces.

Cross-organization promotion: the Rider Pep Band is having their first rehearsal for the 2020 football season on Sunday, March 1st at 2 pm at the Eagles Club - see attached poster for more information.

Reminders

As usual, please let us know if you are unable to attend rehearsal. Also, for Intermediates - please let Stacy know if you will be unable to attend the Optimist performance, as soon as possible.

We are continuing to do 50/50 draws again this year - there's one this week (Feb 25), so don't forget the loonies and twoonies.

Welcome to 2020!

The new calendar year has started off with the weather variations we've come to expect on Wednesdays...
Let's hope that the 15th is only cold and not blustery too!

In the spirit of warming up, the Social Committee has organized a Steak Night fundraiser at The Last Straw, on Saturday, February 8th. Tickets will be available at rehearsals, and will be $25 each. We do need a minimum of 50 people, and we need to give them numbers by February 6th (especially if there are folks who need chicken/vegetarian/gluten free options!)  There will be a 50/50 draw, and we'll be able to celebrate Bob's birthday in style this year.  Invite your friends and family too - sorry, no minors.

Looking further ahead:
The Tisdale band is looking forward to coming to our concert in May - stay tuned for some before/after activities as well.

Reminders

Don't forget to bring back the Christmas and November 11th music when you come to rehearsals in January.

We are continuing to do 50/50 draws again this year - watch for the notes on which week the tickets will be available, and save up your change in between.

Definitely Winter Tire Season!

posted Nov 19, 2019, 10:04 PM by Tracie Larsen

Time flies - and so does the snow!

It's that time of year, when we're dusting off the holiday music, but not quite letting go of some of the music we played for November 11. And, when we expect the forecasts for Wednesdays to be windy and/or wintry and/or wildly unpredictable.  Well,  maybe not wild, but definitely not always a warm autumn day.

Feedback from our November 11 performance in Fort Qu'Appelle has been positive - a big thank you to all who were able to participate.

Let's keep the "bravo"s coming by attending regular rehearsals - please let us know if you can't be there. We are aware that the Pep Band members are soon off to Calgary for the Grey Cup festivities.

Welcome back!

posted Sep 17, 2019, 11:02 PM by Tracie Larsen

(your dreams were your ticket out / welcome back, to that same old place that you laughed about, / well the names have all changed since you hung around / but those dreams have remained and they've turned around / who'd have thought they'd lead ya / back here where we need ya ...)

Anyway, where were we?  Oh yes...

Housekeeping Notes
The band director at Thom Collegiate has asked that we stack the stacking chairs, as well as put away the music stands, at the end of the evening - many hands make light work for these small things we can do to help others!
For regular rehearsals, please let us know if you are unable to attend.
Fees will be due either all at the end of October, or half in October and half in January.

Fundraising
We have an opportunity for some fundraising around the Heritage Classic hockey game - see your email for details.
We have a regular monthly 50-50 draw as well - our first one this season will be September 25 - and tickets are 1/$2 or 3/$5. We use the proceeds to buy music and small auxiliary percussion items as needed.

How rusty are you?

posted Aug 30, 2019, 8:06 PM by Tracie Larsen

And how dusty is the instrument?

It's getting to that time of year, when we dust things off and get back to making music!
Our first rehearsal this fall will be on September 11 - at 6:30 pm for the Intermediate group, and 8:00 pm for the Senior group.
We are again using the Music Room at Thom Collegiate.

With the date, time, and location, all we need is ... YOU - and/or your friends, co-workers, co-conspirators, co-habitants, etc etc.

Attached is a handy poster you can put up to let folks know who we are and where we meet - maybe we'll get some new faces, or even some old faces back again!
