2016/17 Announcements
Time to start blowing the dust out...
.... of the instruments, because the new season will be starting soon! Another year of great music and events is in the works, starting with our first rehearsals on September 20th. The very next week is "Bring a friend to Band" night - and our introductory social between sessions! Following quickly will be our Remembrance day performances - yes, that's two in one day: one in Fort Qu'appelle and another at Lakeview United Church. Our concert dates have also been set so you have plenty of time to block them off on your calendar: Sunday December 10th at 7pm for Christmas, and Sunday April 29th at 7pm for our Spring concert. See you soon! |
Summer Update - warm enough for you yet?
While you're enjoying the warmth, don't forget about the Hot Dog sale at Canadian Tire North on July 15 & 16 - there are still a few volunteer spots available on Saturday, July 15! |
Spring Concert = end of season...
.. and the start of the summer break. Thank you all for a lovely concert - wasn't it nice to have an audience that filled the room? A special thank you to the social committee for the snacks, as well... Reminders: We use the proceeds from the Hot Dog sale during the summer and the 50/50 draws for extras like new music when all the other bills are paid. To have a successful Hot Dog sale, though, we need you to sign up for a shift - please check the weekly email for the schedule and let Sandra know ASAP which shift you will be able to work. Save the Date: This is a summary only - details are on the calendar.

Now that's out of the way ...
We should now be done with snow - especially since there's only one more Wednesday night rehearsal before our concert!! Of course, that also means collecting up folders and music - please hand in your folder if you won't be coming to the concert. As usual for the concert, please be there an hour early (6pm this time!) to help set up and tune. Upcoming: Our AGM will be held on Wednesday, May 3rd at 7 pm, in the Thom music room. It will be relatively short: likely only 30-45 minutes. Reminders: Proceeds from the Hot Dog sale during the summer and the 50/50 draws are can only be used for extras like new music when all the other bills are paid. Our fees are the major source of funds to keep the organization going. To have a successful Hot Dog sale, though, we need you to sign up for a shift - please check the weekly email for the schedule and let Sandra know ASAP which shift you will be able to work. Save the Date: This is a summary only - details are on the calendar.

March Madness
It's the weather that's madness here: yet another month of climate mood swings to challenge us. Reminders March 22: For the Optimist Festival, please be at the Conexus Arts Center as close to 5pm as possible, in all BLACK, with your music and instrument! There is no Intermediate band March 22 (today). Today is the last chance to purchase steak night tickets as well - check out the poster!! Upcoming: Our Steak Night fundraiser is all set to start Sunday, March 26th - see below for the poster. It will be at Mr. Mike's in Harbour Landing. We are encouraging as many as possible to attend on Sunday night so we can mingle, even though it continues Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Also, there will be a 50-50 draw on the Sunday night. There are no rehearsals during school breaks, so band is cancelled April 19th. While Thom is unavailable April 12th as well, the search is on for an alternate space for that date. Let everyone know about our spring concert date on your calendars - 7 pm, Sunday April 30th, at Lakeview United Church. Reminders: Second half fees are now due. Note that our fees are the major source of funds to keep the organization going. Proceeds from the Hot Dog sale during the summer and the 50/50 draws are can only be used for extras like new music if all the other bills are paid first. Deep Freeze, Heat Wave, Normal - Take your pick!
We saw just about every kind of winter - and early spring - weather in February, so let's see what March will throw at us! It's our clinic with Brent Ghiglione this week, so hopefully everyone is all rested and practiced and ready to work Wednesday night. We will not be going to Moose Jaw March 12th - it just didn't work out this year for them. A special note from the Pep Band: they are having auditions this Sunday, March 5th - they are celebrating 25 years of Rider Pride this year! See poster attached below. Upcoming: Senior band will be playing at the Optimist Festival on Wednesday March 22. There will be no Intermediate band that evening. So far, it appears that our performance time will be 5:50pm, so we would like to be there by 5pm - subject to change, of course, as their schedule is updated. When the update is available, it will be discussed at rehearsal. Our Steak Night fundraiser is all set to start Sunday, March 26th - see below for the poster. It will be at Mr. Mike's in Harbour Landing. Note that we are encouraged to attend on Sunday night so we can mingle with our bandmates, even though it continues Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Also, there will be a 50-50 draw on the Sunday night. There are no rehearsals during school breaks, so band is cancelled April 19th. While Thom is unavailable April 12th as well, the search is on for an alternate space for that date. Do put the spring concert date on your calendars - 7 pm, Sunday April 30th, at Lakeview United Church. Reminders: Second half fees are now due. Note that our fees are the major source of funds to keep the organization going. Proceeds from the Hot Dog sale during the summer and the 50/50 draws are can only be used for extras like new music if all the other bills are paid first. Hopefully winter will make up its mind..
We've had our January thaw (and the deep freeze too, thank you!), so let's hope for weather appropriate for the time of year... As those of you who read the weekly email will know, there was a 50-50 draw last week - the winner will likely have a good use for the proceeds! Watch for the next draw in February - there might even be enough to take your sweetie out for a (small) Valentine's treat. Those who have been able to come to rehearsals have seen the new music that's been handed out; if you haven't made it yet, your section-mates probably have a copy for you. Also, if you have suggestions for pieces representing the various regions of the country, please let Bob know! Upcoming: A Steak Night fundraiser is being organized - date and location to be announced. Contact the social committee if you'd like to help out. There are no rehearsals during school breaks, so band is cancelled February 22nd and April 19th. While Thom is unavailable April 12th as well, the search is on for an alternate space for that date. This year, Senior band will be playing at the Optimist Festival, so there will be no Intermediate band on March 22. While we don't have our performance time yet, we have put in a request for the latest possible time - stay tuned for updates! We have a tentative booking for March 12th - a rehearsal and concert with the Moose Jaw Adult band - updates to follow. And, our spring concert date has been set - 7 pm, Sunday April 30th, at Lakeview United Church. Reminders: Second half fees are now due. Note that our fees are the major source of funds to keep the organization going. Proceeds from the Hot Dog sale during the summer and the 50/50 draws are can only be used for extras like new music if all the other bills are paid first. What a difference a week makes!
From FREEZING to slippery sloppy - in just one week - aren't our roads fun? As always, check your email before you leave, dress for the weather, and, please, drive carefully. With the cold keeping so many home last week, the 50-50 draw is this Wednesday, so remember to dig out the loonies, toonies and five-spots when you come to Thom for rehearsal. Upcoming: A Steak Night fundraiser is being organized - date and location to be announced. There will be no rehearsals during school breaks, so band is cancelled February 22nd and April 19th. While Thom is unavailable April 12th as well, we will be looking for an alternate space for that date. This year, Senior band will be playing at the Optimist Festival, so there will be no Intermediate band on March 22. We don't have our performance time yet, but have requested the latest possible - watch for updates! We have a tentative booking for March 12th - a rehearsal and concert with the Moose Jaw Adult band - updates to follow. And, our spring concert date has been set - 7 pm, Sunday April 30th, at Lakeview United Church. Reminders: Note that the second half fees are now due! Our fees are an important way to keep the organization going. The Hot Dog sale during the summer, and the 50/50 draws are our main other sources of funds, and there are still bills to pay, even when we don't get new music.
