Coming Down to the Wire
Just about over...
The quote that was shared in the weekly email this week reminds us how much we can do together, even if we aren't all perfect like some sections (not looking directly at the flutes...): A band doesn't need to be perfect - it just needs to be united. When a passionate group of musicians all work together on a common goal, that's when the creative magic happens. ~~musiciansunite.com It is the shared purpose of making music together that allows us to strike a chord with the audience and each other. And speaking of working together, we will be having two practices with both groups: the first will be next Wednesday, April 17, with each group adding 15 minutes to their regular times (Intermediate stays an extra 15 min while Senior comes 15 min early) to get in a half hour of practice together. The second will be on April 24th, which is also the the day of our AGM, and a day when we will be practicing downstairs at Lakeview United Church (schools are closed for Easter break). The AGM will be at 7:30. and the combined practice will follow. This week, April 10th, will be a normal rehearsal - and there will be 50/50 tickets! RemindersPlease let us know if you won't be able to attend a rehearsal - we are getting down to the last couple of rehearsals of the season. Our concert is coming up FAST - be sure to put up the attached poster to help fill the hall! More daylight!
Spring is trying to spring... Not matter what weather gets thrown our way. Thanks to all who went on the trip to Tisdale - it was a great trip, a nice venue, and a good concert! Now on to preparing for our Spring Concert! The new piece, Blood Moon, that both groups are working on, will need combined practice as well. See the calendar entries for the reminders. Also, please listen to mp3 file on the previous announcement. Also, note that our AGM will be April 24th - on that night, we will also be downstairs at Lakeview United Church. RemindersPlease let us know if you won't be able to attend a rehearsal - since some of you travel quite a bit to come for band, it's nice to know you're safe! And now it's time for a ROAD TRIP!
After the Optimist Festival, there's not much left in March - except for the trip to Tisdale on Saturday, March 30. We will be leaving the city bright and early so remember to set your alarms! There is a concert, and we will wear our standard ALL BLACK for it - we expect there will be time to change, so if you want to wear something different on the bus, please remember to bring your black shirt/pants/socks/shoes. We also have a new piece that both groups will be working on and will need to practice together. (see - or rather, hear the attached mp3 file). Stay tuned for dates when Senior band will need to come a little early and Intermediate will need to stay a little late. Please note that our AGM will be April 24th - on that night, we will also be downstairs at Lakeview United Church. New year - new music!
Some resolutions are still holding up, and some have gone by the wayside, and we're only three weeks in! Let's see how long the "more frequent posting" one goes. Not only have we been adding to our folders, there are also two pieces that have been handed in: Block M and All the Pretty Little Ponies. Check out the music links to see if you can spot the new ones - and if you find better performances, please let Tracie know. We will be back to watching for weathery Wednesdays - and hoping they won't interfere with regular rehearsals. If conditions are such that there could be an issue, please watch your inbox for cancellation emails. Also, there are a few new faces around - but you'll have to come to rehearsals to find out who they are. RemindersSince it's time to get back, it's also time for the second fees installment for those that chose the two-payment plan. Also, if you still have either a Christmas folder or a November 11th folder (or both), please bring them to band as soon as possible so the music can be sorted out for next year. Please let us know if you won't be able to attend a rehearsal - since some of you travel quite a bit to come for band, it's nice to know you're safe! Resolutions, anyone?
How many of us are resolving to practice a little more? Whether or not your resolutions include practicing, it is time to get back to making music. And to help us along with that resolution, we've got more NEW MUSIC!! For those that played in the Christmas concert - thank you for all the efforts to make it a success! Also, if you still have either a Christmas folder or a November 11th folder (or both), please bring them to band as soon as possible so the music can be sorted out for next year. Now to our Holiday Music selections we go, laughing all the way..
It's less than a month to our Christmas Concert! Thank you!First, thank you to everyone who playd in either or both the concert at Lakeview and the service in Fort Qu'Appelle - both performances had appreciative audiences! Get Ready to CelebrateSo, now to start working on our selections for Christmas. We already have a new piece to work on, and there may be more as well as our holiday standards. This means coming to as many rehearsals as you can - and possibly some practice in between. And with the days getting shorter, the weather becomes more of a factor, so do watch your email for updates in case of possible "weather events". Also, don't forget to let us know if you can't make it to rehearsal for other reasons as well. Time Passages...
What? It's almost Remembrance Day, already? How can the time disappear like that? We do have a couple new pieces for November 11, so please be sure to come to the November 7th rehearsal(s) as it's the last chance to go over them before the concert at Lakeview United Church on November 10th (see attached poster), and the service in Fort Qu'appelle on November 11th. For both concerts, please wear all black (standard concert attire), and a poppy. On November 10th, Senior band members should be at the church by 6pm. Note that there will be a poppy tray from the Legion at the door; if you need to take a poppy, please remember to leave a donation. We have permission from the church to have a donation box for the Legion at the concert as well. On November 11th, please meet at the church by 8:15 am as we need to load the music stands and percussion equipment. The bus will leave at 8:30 am. Because the Riders are hosting the semi-final, we will be returning to Regina right after the concert so the Pep Band members can get to the game. Our fundraising dinner at Peg's Kitchen is also coming up fast - it's on November 16th! Please get your tickets as soon as possible, as there are a limited number at each seating (5;30 pm & 7:30 pm). Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children - note that drinks are extra. We will be raffling off the flute and clarinet lamps made by Brent - hopefully everyone will be able to sell a few tickets (available November 7th). The draw will be made at the Christmas concert, so there is some time to get them sold. |
