Fun and Games

posted Oct 27, 2015, 9:34 PM by Tracie Larsen   [ updated Oct 27, 2015, 9:34 PM ]

Along with the work...

So far, we've had some nice autumn weather, so there should be no excuses for not getting to rehearsals - especially since we don't have many rehearsals left until our Concert of Remembrance. And it's getting closer everyday - as seen on the countdown timer to the left. There isn't much time to clean up that new music, and we still need to get the old stand-bys out and polished up a little. So, please, make some time to work on the new pieces.

This week we also have the Halloween costume fun - wear your costume to rehearsal, and see if you win the prize - the judges are not prone to outside judging, so it should be a fair contest. Next week, aside from being the last rehearsal before the concert, will be the November 50/50 draw. Bring your loonies and toonies - remember that aside from the temporary boost to the pocketbook, we're all winners, since the proceeds go towards new music.

Reminders
First half or lump sum whole year fee payments are now past due - they should have been paid by October 21, and the second installment will be due by January 13, 2016.
If you are having cash flow problems, please talk to our lovely treasurer to work something out!
Remember: there is no additional fee for playing a second instrument and/or coming to both Intermediate and Senior rehearsals!!
Also, remember to scroll down and read all the way to the end of the weekly update email - it paid off for last month's 50/50 winner!

And now, down to work...
Hope everyone had lots to be Thankful for, this past weekend.
As can be seen from the countdown in the left column, we don't have many rehearsals left until our Concert of Remembrance, so it's time to buckle down and get the new music presentable!
If you haven't got your Remembrance Day music folder (and music) yet, please contact us so we can try to get it together for you. And if you do have it, please make time to work on the new pieces.

Wondering who won the October 50/50 draw?  Check your email for the winning number from last week. Congratulations to the winner of the September draw! But really, we're all winners, since the proceeds go towards new music.

Reminders
Fees can be paid in one lump sum or two. First/total amount due by October 21, and the second installment will be due by January 13, 2016.

Welcome to the 2015/2016 Season!

Some things are constant - like Bob, O Canada, and a rousing march.
Sometimes things change - Kim has stepped up  to direct the Intermediate group.

Summer sunlight starts to fade...

posted Aug 26, 2015, 9:25 PM by Tracie Larsen   [ updated Sep 6, 2015, 10:15 PM ]

With all the students getting ready to go (back) to school, it's also time to look forward to going back to band.

We hope you had a great summer break. We have another wonderful band year planned for you starting with our first rehearsal, Wednesday, September 16th As before, Intermediate band is at 6:30 and Senior band is at 8:00, and we rehearse at Thom Collegiate.

If you are not returning to band, please let us know.  You can send an e-mail, or give Bob (senior) or Kim (intermediate) a call.  We would also appreciate knowing the reason you are not returning.

There are a couple of special occasions to celebrate in the coming band year:  Bob's 80th birthday, February 7th, and the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the Regina Lions Band/Mossing School of Music (March 15, 1946).

The lovely poster attached below is courtesy of Terry (thanks again!) - please post it and share it, as band is even more fun with more people playing!

Time to start getting ready for another season!

Summer break...

Just because the season is over doesn't mean the work is done!

Please remember to send in your music requests for next season - maybe you have a favorite selection we haven't played recently, or an idea for a number of pieces; in any case, let's hear from you what you'd like to play!

Fundraising:
Our other major fundraiser for the year is approaching! On the Father's day weekend, we have a hot dog sale scheduled at the north Canadian Tire, here in Regina. There are still some time-slots open, so check your email for the spreadsheet and let us know you can hep out .

Upcoming:
Word of mouth remains our best marketing tool - so please try to convince folks who you think may enjoy playing with us to come out in September!

Reminders:

The next rehearsal, April 22, will also be our AGM. Please be sure to come early or prepare to stay a little later as appropriate.

Remember to send in your music requests for next season.
We've already started to hand in the music not being played at the concert, so our folders won't take much to empty after that.

Fundraising:
The Steak Night fundraiser was a big success - the organizing committee was pleased to see 88 people in attendance. A big "thank you" goes to all who were able to bring guests - and to the organizing committee!! Please forward your comments on the event.

Upcoming:
Please remember to put up posters for our concert -  there's a copy attached below.

Just a few short weeks...

posted Mar 29, 2015, 7:13 PM by Tracie Larsen   [ updated Apr 1, 2015, 6:33 PM ]

... left until our Spring Concert!

For everyone who made it to Optimist, thank you - it was a good performance, and (at least for this person) an enjoyable clinic.

Although we had one of those wintry Wednesdays last week, we're hoping April Fool's Day will be nice to us.
We have only four rehearsals in April - no rehearsal on the 8th due to school holidays - and our concert is the first weekend in May.  That's not a lot of time to get our all of our concert pieces ready, so we're hoping most members can make it to these rehearsals.

Fundraising:
Our April 50-50 number will been drawn Wednesday, so please remember your loonies & toonies.
We have a Steak Night fundraiser coming up as well, on April 18th at Bonzinni's. While there's lots of room, we still need to let them know how many are coming, so please see the social committee for tickets.

Upcoming:
Spring concert is just around the corner! Remember to put up posters!

Reminders:
Please let us know if you aren't able to get to rehearsal - the best method is to call Bob or Jane - or email us.
